Top 5 signs of a heart attack

Posted by Corey Wayne on 17th Apr 2017

We often talk about the need for AEDs and other devices in order to assist someone undergoing a heart attack. Although those AED items are incredibly beneficial, we would prefer to prevent any heart attacks before they happen. In order to help promote heart attack health awareness, we would like to point out 5 signs of an approaching heart attack. How far away these signs are from the heart attack depends on your specific health conditions. Regardless, we recommend that if you are suspecting a heart attack, please go ahead and contact your doctor immediately.

Chest pain

Chest pain can show up in varying forms. The pain can feel sharp or dull. It can also feel downright heavy. It should be noted that men and women tend to experience different heart attack symptoms. However, one of the most common for both would be chest pain and discomfort. But this kind of discomfort goes beyond the chest area.

Pressure in the jaw or arm

When it comes to the jaw and arms, the nerve fibers tend to run together with the cardiac nerve fibers to the brain. This is typically why it is easy to confuse the pain signal from the heart with the pain from the jaw and arms. Women tend to feature these symptoms more than men do. Regardless, if you are experiencing these symptoms, you should call a doctor for proper questions and/or a check-up.

Lightheadedness and dizziness

Another sign could be if you break out in a cold sweat, experience dizziness or lightheadedness. It might make sense to feel this way when working out. But if it happens at a time when it doesn’t make much sense, then it would be wise to go in for a check-up with your doctor.

Indigestion, nausea, and throwing up

We know that these symptoms are only normal under certain circumstances. But they can point to a heart attack if these symptoms are coming from someone who normally does not have digestive problems. If they ate something bad then that could likely be the cause. But if it happens without cause (like the other signs listed above) then it could be a sign of a heart attack. It is also a likely red flag if some proper medicine has no effect on nausea/indigestion.

Profuse sweating and shortness of breath

If you are exercising or moving a lot throughout the day, then that is where these feels normally coming from. The chance of a heart attack arises when it seemingly comes out of nowhere. This could happen during a simple walk.

With more awareness of the various heart attack symptoms, we can hopefully prevent future heart attacks from happening. For more information on our AEDs and other products, please feel free to contact us here.
